This course is designed as a follow on from the “Introduction to Cancer Related Lymphoedema” and should not be completed as a stand alone.

 

This course is an overview of lymphoedema secondary to head and neck cancer and its treatments. This will build on your learning from the introduction to cancer related lymphoedema and help you recognise symptoms more readily, undertake basic assessment, monitoring and initiate immediate and necessary care

This course is suitable for any health care professional – Medical, Nursing, Allied Health Care Professionals (including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, radiographers, Operating Department Practitioners, mammographers, dieticians, Speech and Language therapists) Pharmacists and support staff working with people living with head and neck cancer

Learning outcomes

  1. To understand and be able to educate patients about the reason they are at risk of developing cancer related lymphoedema and why it occurs
  2. To be able to undertake basic assessment and identify atypical presentation
  3. To understand the specific impact for head and neck cancer patients who are at risk or develop cancer related lymphoedema
  4. To understand the role of the MDT in managing cancer related lymphoedema
  5. To be able to initiate immediate and necessary care
